Been surveying a lot of old trawlers and motor yachts lately. One thing keeps coming up. Soft decks.

There can be a lot of opinions on the use of a moisture meter to determine if the deck coring is wet. But, nothing proves it more than a deck that sags under foot. The fiberglass has separated (debonded) from the core.

First step is to fix the leaks that caused it. Next step is to fix the damage caused by that moisture. Most owners do not do the second step. It can be costly and requires yard time if unable to do themselves. A new owner may be reluctant to purchase because of the same reason.

Pick your to-do list carefully.
